Machine activations bond PEAQ (removing it from active use for the subscription period), lapsed bonds are 50% burned / 50% to treasury, and slashing splits 50/50 burn/treasury. Staking rewards come from inflation, not fees. Supply inflates 3.5% annually, disinflating 10% per year to a 1% floor.

Holding PEAQ enables gradual network guidance by voting on key decisions via onchain governance concerning its development and future. Governance is rolled out in stages: Initial, Midterm and Longterm. The Midterm phase is active, meaning governance is shifting onchain and holders, Council & Technical Committee can propose upgrades, parameter changes or treasury spending.

PEAQ is the native token of peaq. It pays all transaction fees, secures the chain through validator/delegator staking, and since Economics 2.0 (Sept 2026) is bonded by every machine that activates on the network. Governance is not yet onchain; the Foundation currently holds veto power, with a staged roadmap toward token-holder control.
